Ever seen a pose and thought, damn how are they doing that? Or, yeah right I will never get my shoulder under my knee? The 3 Bridges Advance Your Asana series kicks off this Sunday, March 15th and I am beyond excited! This first class focuses on arm balances, so if you love to work crow or firefly, this class is for you. We will have plenty of play time as well as a strong sequence to prepare and work the body. Don’t worry, the rest and savasana will be sweet as well. Look for handstand, splits and backbend classes coming up in the Spring.
The arm balance class will break down each progression of the pose and hopefully get you flying in the air! I will also share my secret hints so that you can reach success and learn how to make a what once seemed to be an impossible pose be accessible and successful to you. Got questions? Great, write them down and bring them to me! I could talk yoga all day every day! If there are any “advanced” asanas that you are working on or would like to see as a class for this series, please let me know! I am here to share the magic of yoga and sometimes getting that one pose can make you jump for joy. Let me help you emancipate yourself from mental slavery and defeat and erase all those voices that say you can’t and you won’t.! Ready, set, let go and fly!
Please also remember that asana (the pose) is not everything. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if you can or can’t do a pose. A level 2 or advanced class is considered a success when your own spiritual growth and knowledge gets carried off the mat and into your everyday life; not when you can handstand in the middle of the room. Yoga eventually becomes a lifestyle, not just a form of keeping in shape. Clarity in the mind, kindness and compassion in your heart, and being present for friends and family will make the world a better place. Practice and persistence definitely pays off.
“Practice asana by creating space in the muscles and skin so that the fine network of the body fits into the asana.” –BKS Iyengar
