Your Brain and Yoga

Human beings have a unique ability to exert the mind over the body and the self. The mind is composed of all of our thoughts, networks of thoughts and the resulting patterns of thinking. Some of these patterns are embedded in an ancient part of our brain; other patterns are influenced by our life’s experience. One of the goals of yoga is to establish a better pattern of thinking about the way we move. The physical practice serves as a tremendous tool for exercising and expressing the underlying teachings. Together they have a profound impact on the brain. Subsequently, yoga helps us to not only move with ease, but move through our life with ease.

On Sunday April 12th, from 9:30am to 11:30am at the Portsmouth studio, we will have a special workshop focusing on your Brain and Yoga. Led by Boston-based 500hr yoga teacher Bill MacDonald, this class will comprise of lecture, pranayama, power yoga, meditation and relaxation. The lecture will cover topics ranging from; the evolution of the brain and primal influences we still experience, to neuroplasticity and cultivating networks of thinking and applying them to everyday life. After this, there will be a guided meditation and breath work to set you up for a spirited and upbeat flow. The flow will be composed of power postures, a dynamic playlist, and an extended savasana.

Within every human being lies a deep reservoir of potential and this potential is held back by a dam that we build out of materials like self-doubt, self-criticism, self-judgment and reinforced with negative patterns of thinking. The goal of this workshop is to begin demolition on the dam.

Cost is $20 Members, $25 Non-members, $30 day of drop in. Buy Now or register at any studio or over the phone. There are no refunds or exchanges for this class.
